A 2D PM Fiber Array is a multi-fiber assembly in which polarization-maintaining fibers are positioned in a two-dimensional pattern with defined fiber coordinates and polarization-axis orientations.
A standard 2D FA focuses primarily on accurate fiber-core positioning. A 2D PM FA additionally requires control of each PM fiber's principal polarization-axis orientation and evaluation of polarization performance.
Polarization-axis alignment refers to orienting the PM fiber's slow or fast axis relative to a defined mechanical or optical reference.
Correct alignment helps preserve a linearly polarized optical state launched along the intended principal axis.
Matrix configurations can be evaluated according to the number of rows, columns, X/Y fiber positions, pitch, and substrate design.
The required drawing should specify every fiber position and its applicable tolerance.
