A Polarization Maintaining Fiber Array (PM-FA) is a multi-channel optical component that precisely positions an array of Polarization Maintaining (PM) fibers. Its primary function is twofold:

Spatial Alignment: To accurately position the fiber cores at precise, uniform intervals (pitch) for coupling to other devices, similar to a standard Fiber Array.

Polarization Alignment: Crucially, to align the polarization axes (stress rods) of all fibers in the array to a designated plane or reference point. This ensures that the light's polarization state, once launched into the correct axis, is maintained consistently across all channels.
